The Public Works department is responsible for maintaining the network of streets, sewer lines, trees, City buildings, and City parks and trails. The maintenance facility is located at 2077 W. Larpenteur Avenue (connected to City Hall). To learn more about divisions of Public Works, view below.

Streets

Falcon Heights rights-of-way include most residential streets and all alleys.

Snelling Avenue is Minnesota State Highway under the jurisdiction of the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The following streets are under Ramsey County jurisdiction:

Larpenteur Avenue
Cleveland Avenue
Fairview Avenue
Hamline Avenue (north of Larpenteur)
Fulham Avenue (north of Larpenteur)

Pot Holes

After harsh winter weather, our roads tend to develop the occasional pot hole. If you become aware of a pot hole please report it! If the pot hole you would like to report is on a Falcon Heights street, please contact City Hall, and the Public Works Department will be notified.

Street Lighting

Xcel Energy maintains most of the city streetlights.
To report an outage of a streetlight, call Xcel at 1-800-960-6235 or report online at http://www1.xcelenergy.com/ODL/OUTAGEREPORT//
If you witness accidental damage to a streetlight, or see evidence of vandalism, call 911, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and they will send the appropriate aid.

Street Sweeping

Local streets and alleys are swept in the spring around mid-April and several times during the summer. Sweeping of leaves starts in October until it is not feasible due to snow or extreme cold weather.

Electricity and natural gas are provided by Xcel Energy 1-800-895-4999
Report power outages to Xcel at 1-800-895-1999

Garbage Collection

Garbage Collection is the responsibility of each property owner. Minnesota state law requires every property owner to provide for garbage collection.
Property owners contract for collection, which must be done on Fridays by a Falcon Heights licensed hauler.

Gopher State One-Call

Call 651-454-0002 or 800-252-1166 before digging to avoid hitting underground utilities. The locations of utilities will be marked by the organizations responsible for them. More information can be found on the Gopher State website.

Stormwater

Stormwater runoff is a serious environmental issue. Every property owner shares the responsibility for minimizing runoff and preventing pollution.

In compliance with the provisions of the Federal Clean Water Act (CWA), the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency requires the City, as one of the small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (small MS4) to maintain a permit for discharge of storm water. Supporting documentation for the City's MS4 permit is below. The public is welcome to submit comments on the items below; written comments may be submitted to mail@falconheights.org, or by mail.

Trees and Forestry

Boulevard Trees

Trees are annually checked for disease and removed if necessary. The City annually contracts for tree trimming in designated areas of the City. For any care of trees located in the boulevard or near the street, contact City Hall. In November 2009, with confirmation of emerald ash borer on the University of Minnesota campus, the City Council voted for preemptive removal and replacement of boulevard ash trees. The City was awarded a Minnesota Department of Agriculture grant to help remove ash trees from boulevards and parks.

City Forester

The City of Falcon Heights currently contracts with an outside forester for all tree situations. The forester's hours are based on demand for service and request. If you have a tree question for public or private property, contact City Hall.
