About the Event
Human Rights Day is observed internationally on December 10 each year, marking the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. This landmark document "proclaims the inalienable rights to which everyone is entitled to as a human being- regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status."
In acknowledgement of this international observance, the Community Engagement Commission selects a theme and organizes an event, usually a presentation, on a topic pertaining to human rights. Past events have focused on childhood food insecurity, human trafficking, and immigration and New Americans in our community.
