From the incorporation of Falcon Heights in 1949 as a city until January 2021, the City was served by a volunteer, paid on-call fire department. The City's fire department was initially located near Snelling and Larpenteur before the construction of the current City Hall at 2077 Larpenteur Ave W in the 1980s. The women and men who served the department for these many years are owed a debt of gratitude for their public service.
Following a months-long review of services and audit of the the City's fire services, the City Council voted in 2021 to move away from the volunteer, paid-on call model and approved a contract with the City of Saint Paul for fire services. The decision was based on a variety of factors, including long-term viability and cost of services.
