Yoga, as practiced in the traditional meditative style, offers a holistic approach to total health and fitness. It’s more than just another workout; rather, it’s a wellness technology with 2000 years of results. Yoga is the most cost-effective investment you can make in prevention and well-being.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • A command of various breathing techniques for desired mental outcomes such as energizing, calming, and focusing.
  • Improved flexibility that measurably improves your range of motion in hips, shoulders and spine by going beyond the superficial stretching common in the West.
  • Improves tone in core muscles through better utilization in basic breathing as well as in various breathing exercises.
  • Improved ton in the subtle muscles of the back, shoulders arms and core. This style is upper body/core intensive, weight-bearing exercise.
  • “Meditation in motion,” a profound sense of relaxation and peace.
  • A high degree of customization. Every student in every class is given several assists from a teacher trained to spot the uniqueness in individual body proportions, range-of-motion and physical conditioning.

YogaHotDish Instructor, Shaila Cunningham, is back with her unique yoga recipe, combining classical yoga with modern best practices, served up with a side of humor! Certified 2001 in residence at Kripalu, Shaila offers body-positive, individual coaching in her small-group classes. So, if you're tired of being lost-in-the back in large yoga venues trying to mimic the instructor's workout, this is for you! Classes are fully comprehensive and include often overlooked breathing and meditation techniques, along with the familiar mix of asanas (poses). You'll get a workout for sure, but more importantly, a work-in. This class is appropriate for healthy beginners and fitness or you wanting to explore the "deeper practices."

You must be able to get up and down off the floor unassisted; however, Shaila has worked with students with a variety of conditions including cancer, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, Lyme, depression/anxiety, and more. You will find familiar faces every week, so come join us for what is more than just a class, but an entire program and community. You can make up missed classes or take additional classes at other YogaHotDish locations, attend workshops and even yoga retreats!

Please bring water and a yoga mat if you have one.   Otherwise, plenty of gear to lend such as mats, blocks, blankets and ties.
