The City of Falcon Heights approved its Energy Action Plan in October 2024 after months of hard work from city staff, Energy Action Team members, and Xcel Partners in Energy staff.

Xcel has many programs that can save you money on bills by making your home more efficient, as well as opt-in renewables programs and rebates on home appliances.
Home services:
- Home Energy Squad will install energy-saving materials and inspect your insulation, heating and cooling systems, and water heater.

- Visits cost just $35 for houses built after 2000, renters, condos, and mobile homes
- Visits cost just $50 for houses built before 2000
- Free for those who qualify!

- Home Energy Audit will inspect your home's insulation, appliances, and exterior to offer ideas on energy savings and reveal areas that need improvement.
- The Whole Home Efficiency program helps find projects and rebates to address the issues revealed by the Home Energy Audit!

Rebates:
- Water heaters are a huge use of energy in the home and upgrading to an ENERGY STAR water heater is a great way to reduce your energy needs.
- Insulation and air sealing can help make your home more efficient by reducing the heat or cooling lost to the elements.
- LED bulbs and lighting are often covered by rebates and are more efficient than incandescent bulbs.
Renewables/EVs:
- Renewable*Connect allows you to opt into solar for $6-$8 additional per month
- Install solar panels and receive credits for extra energy being added to the grid!
- Solar gardens are a great way for people who cannot install their own solar panels to support solar energy in their community! Xcel has a program for those who subscribe to a solar garden, which gives you a credit on your monthly bill once the solar garden is operational.

Appliances:
- Smart thermostats and high efficiency showerheads are a great way to reduce energy costs. Visit the Xcel store for options and to see available rebates.
- LED bulbs and lighting are a great way to save money on lightbulbs!
- Consider purchasing ENERGY STAR rated appliances that use less energy when on the market for a new or replacement appliance.
- Remember to unplug appliances when they are not in use and consider turning down your thermostat when out of the house!

Renewables:
- Xcel offers its Renewable*Connect programs that support solar energy and are open to both business and residential customers:
- Renewable*Connect Flex is currently open and allows you to pay for solar energy in addition to your monthly bill, which can qualify for renewable energy credits
